I saw this poem many years ago, & never thought it would touch OUR lives. Our wonderful 18 yr. old Son has Asperger's syndrome. We are SO proud of him. He earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Texas (without disclosing the diagnosis; we didn't want to risk the small chance of bias). There have been some "bumps", but he's doing really well in his first semester, & living @ the UTD dorms. He Really wanted the dorm experience/ independence, so we said "yes", with the security of knowing he is only 20 min. away. What is even more important, is he has such a good heart and a strong sense of justice. The Lesson is: What worries or scares you can turn out to be a gift!!

Hello Melinda-

I started out simply as a nutrition consultant. At 10 months old,w e watched our daughter screaming in pain daily and knew something was very wrong. She was not even on solids. We learned that, because of nuerological damage, her digestive system did not work properly, but we learned that through our own research. the doctors did not and still do not understand this phenomenon with many children. What we now know is that most children on the autism spectrum have weak digestive tracts. You are right, this is only compound by the poor diets. We did learn that, through proper and strategic supplementation and diet, we could repair this. I am not sure if you have the ability to educate families, but if you would like to learn more about what we do, i would be happy to talk with you. It could even be an extra source of income for you. Please let me know if you would like to set up a time to talk.

As a paraeducator working with Autistic high schoolers, I've often wondered about nutrition. I see the kids eats nothing but carbs, and knowing about their poor digestion, wondered about diet and behavior.
You blog is very interesting and relevant. Please keep writing and I'll keep reading.
I wish more parents would look into diet but I feel many are just in survival mode. 24/7 with an autistic child (or 2 or 3) must be a roller coaster ride!

I try to introduce them both to situations and people as early as possible either by telling them or showing pictures or by actually doing a "dry run" of the situation. And that has worked well for me, in the case of sitters we always do interviews with the kids here so that they can see the person, and if we're going someplace different I always show pictures of what the place will be like so there will be less anxiety. Now because all kids on the spectrum are different that approach (from speaking with other parents) doesn't work on all kids on the spectrum. But that works for me.

Well put, Becky. But we really need to face the facts. The allopathic medical authorities are never going to blow the whistle on themselves. They are going to stonewall and stonewall on this matter as long as they can, because when the whole truth finally outs - as it will - they are going to be up for criminal negligence, of a high degree. And I think a lot of these individuals involved in this stonewalling are just hoping to make retirement before their whole professional world collapses around them, and even their own family members say of them, 'How could you...'

Others are undoubtedly so arrogant as to think they are so mighty that the public will never find out that whole truth, or that even if they did, they would never have the power to unseat them. I have news for those in that camp. It won't be a matter of being unseated - gently - from their seats of power. It will be a matter of being kicked out. As in, 'O how the mighty have fallen'.

Hi Sarah- I just sent you an e-mail, to your e-mail address with some information. Let me know if you would like to talk more indepth. I am so impressed that you are already looking into supplements for your son. Sarah, the best advice I can give you is to never accept no for an answer. YOU will be the difference in your sons' life and he is so blessed to have you as his mom, already looking and open to solutions that will change his life. Becky

Hello,

My son who is 3 is newly diagnosed (pdd-nos) and I would love more information about the supplements you use. We are in need of some cod liver oil that he will actually take:( I bought the nordic naturals brand, but I can't get it down him. We are just beginning this journey. Thanks, Sarah

Thank you for this list. I have been told that my daughter shows signs of Aspergers. She is only 2 1/2. But this list has helped me understand a little of why they think that.
